Saturday dinner adventures

Other than the lettuce, every veggie was local. Crockpot chicken tacos, rice, beans, lizano, margaritas. We also took advantage of fresh tomato and basil for a homemade bruschetta.. I just hope I have the right pictures attached.

Matt, looks like you and Kristen are eating downright healthy these days! Where in the heck is the bagel shop in A'boro? As to the WH on 64, I haven't passed that way in over a week, but I had been informed it was to be a KFC, and they were gonna tear down the existing KFC. RE: your comments on my blog -- My sister lives about 2 blocks from Flaming Amy's and I've been there. We were discussing Apple Annie's yesterday as a possibility for a woodie station wagon cake for Slate's 17th. birthday party down there. Haven't tried any local micro-breweries yet but will certainly keep that one in mind. I'll be closed from the 16th thru the 19th for Slate's birthday, as we're getting the heck outta Dodge, er, C-grove. Later dude and dudette-Tom

We're trying to eat a bit healthier... every now and then we'll cave in, but for the most part, the goal is still to be healthier.

Yeah, the double KFC is worthy of a picture. When you just can't get enough chicken, build a KFC next to your KFC.

Amy's can go either way. I go for the food, less the crowd. Everything I have ever had from Apple Annie's has been decadent, and you guys are wanting a cake-as-a-woodie-station-wagon? I'll dig around for a few recommendations on that. I can almost see it being brought out on an old Ventures/Surfaris album cover.

The bagel shop is in the old Scoops location on Fayetteville street, in the intersection of Fayetteville and Worth St. You have to park back behind of the shop itself.

Matt, I agree about FA's. The salsa's are good, but the whole Bonanza Steak House thing kinda ruins it for me. There's a good Mex restaurant across the street from Lowe's Foods on Oleander, been there twice and so far, so good. I'm gonna check out prices at W-M for Slate's cake. A small cake with a painted woodie on top at AA's is around $40. Are you talking about the old Scoops up north, near Calvary Methodist? How about Al Franken? Actors, wrestlers and comics in politics. What am I saying?!? It's all an act, a wrestling match (or better yet, who's got the biggest wee-wee) or a comedy routine.

I'll have to check out the mexican placeI thought you meant an edible woodie-cake. I was thinking two sheet cakes stacked and carved down into a station-wagon shape. Etc.

As far as the bagel shop, it's right in downtown asheboro... there's a huge coca-cola mural painted on the building.
There was a mexican place there a while back, then scoops moved in temporarily before moving into the Big Dipper location near Sir Pizza.

I'm cautiously avoiding any political banter.. all things considered.. hehe.

Matt, I know where the bagel shop is now. A friend of mine from El Salvador had a restaurant there about 8-10 years ago. It has had so many incarnations I now wonder if anything will make it in that location, know what I mean?

El Agave is across from Lowe's on Oleander -- prices are average for a Mexican restaurant, and good food. I have become a fan of spinach enchiladas of late, and even though Burrito Brothers uses canned spinach I order them there. Tasty.

I wish I could afford a sculpted woody station wagon cake for Slate! I wonder how much Duff (Ace of Cakes) would charge?

RE: political banter -- understood :-)

Time to trim some pots, finish up my grocery list for the weekend and head off. Happy 4th to you and Kristen. I hope you guys do something fun!

And the same to you and yours Tom! We're spending the 4th on top of a boathouse over on Tillery. More crock-pot chicken tacos, cold brew, and some fireworks to end the night.

Pictures will follow, as will a blog update.
